The Gap I Saw in the Candle Gifting Market

The Gap I Saw in the Candle Gifting Market

When I started looking at the candle and gifting market, I noticed a gap.

There were so many beautiful scented candles and luxury candles available, but very few were actually ready to be gifted.

You would buy a beautiful candle and then still have to figure out how to pack it.

Find a box. Buy some wrapping paper. Look for a ribbon. Find a gift tag. Then spend time putting everything together.

And I remember thinking, why?

If I’m buying a candle to give someone, shouldn’t the candle already come beautifully packed?

That became one of the things I wanted to solve when I built AW Apothecary.

The packaging is part of the gift

I’ve always felt that when you give someone a gift, the presentation matters.

We don’t usually go to someone’s home or office empty-handed. We take something with us. A small token, a thank you, or simply a gesture to say, “I thought of you.”

And if you’re going to give someone something, I think it should feel special from the moment they receive it.

So we started looking at our candle packaging very differently.

Our handmade soy wax candles are designed to be ready to gift. You shouldn’t have to buy another box or find a ribbon before you can hand it over.

The candle should arrive looking like a gift.

The packaging should be beautiful.

The fragrance should be inviting.

And opening the box should be part of the experience.

Because honestly, who doesn’t love a good unboxing?

We also wanted to make gifting less wasteful

There was another reason this mattered to me.

A lot of gifting packaging creates unnecessary waste.

You might need a small piece of ribbon, but you end up buying an entire roll. You might need another box simply because the original product wasn’t packaged for gifting.

I didn’t want to build that into our products.

So we’ve tried to make our packaging as plastic-free and sustainable as possible, while still making it feel beautiful and premium.

For me, sustainable gifting shouldn’t mean that the gift has to look ordinary.

And luxury gifting shouldn’t have to mean excessive packaging.

I wanted to find the middle ground.

Especially when it comes to corporate gifting

This became even more relevant as we started working with corporate gifting clients.

When a company is sending a gift to a client, employee or business partner, the last thing anyone wants is for the recipient to receive something that needs to be repacked.

It should simply arrive, look beautiful and be ready to give.

This is why our corporate gifts, bulk candle orders and custom gifting are all thought through as a complete experience.

Because we manufacture our candles in-house, we can also control the quality, quantities, fragrances, packaging and customisation much more closely.

That makes a big difference when you’re creating premium corporate gifts or larger gifting orders.

The little details matter

I’ve learnt over the years that people notice the little things.

The way a box opens.

The way a candle sits inside it.

The ribbon.

The fragrance when you first open it.

The way the candle looks on someone’s table once the packaging is gone.

These things might seem small, but together they are what make a gift memorable.

And that is really what we wanted AW Apothecary to be about.

Not just making luxury scented candles in India.

But creating something that is beautiful to receive, lovely to open and useful enough to actually keep.

That was the gap

The gap I saw wasn’t that India needed another candle brand.

There were already plenty of candles.

What I felt was missing was a beautiful, premium, ready-to-gift candle where the product and the packaging were thought about together.

A soy wax candle with a beautiful fragrance.

Thoughtful, sustainable packaging.

A presentation that doesn’t need any extra work.

Something you can pick up, give to someone and feel good about giving.

And that simple observation became a very important part of AW Apothecary.

Because sometimes a business idea doesn’t start with inventing something completely new.

Sometimes, you just notice something that could be done better, and decide to fix it.
