I used to be a candle hoarder.
Not the kind who bought a candle, lit it and finished it. I was the kind who would buy a beautiful, expensive candle and then keep it because it was “too good to use.”
For years, I struggled to find scented candles in India that had the kind of fragrances I was looking for. Many of the easily available candles had very strong, generic fragrances. They smelled like a candle, rather than creating an experience.
So I would end up buying expensive candles from international luxury brands.
And then I would do what candle hoarders do best — save them.
I saved one for so long that when I finally decided to light it almost ten years later, it wouldn’t even burn properly.
That was the moment I realised something very simple:
A candle’s destiny is to be lit.
That thought stayed with me when I started working on AW Apothecary.
Creating Luxury Scented Candles in India
When I started AW Apothecary in 2021, I wanted to create the kind of luxury scented candles in India that I personally wanted to buy.
I wanted beautiful, sophisticated fragrances that didn’t smell generic. I wanted scents that made you stop and think, “What is that?”
But I didn’t want to create another candle brand where the price was driven by unnecessary frills.
For me, luxury is about the fragrance, the quality of the wax, the burn, the experience and the craftsmanship.
It doesn’t have to mean an unreasonable price.
So we focused on creating beautifully scented soy wax candles with wooden wicks, while keeping our pricing as attainable as possible.
What Makes AW Apothecary Different?
Our approach to fragrance is probably the biggest difference.
We don’t want our candles to simply make a room smell “nice.”
We want them to create an atmosphere.
Our fragrances are designed to be distinctive, layered and memorable — fragrances that feel luxurious without being overpowering.
This is also one of the things our customers tell us most often.

And honestly, that is exactly what we were trying to achieve.

When people first see an AW Apothecary candle, they sometimes assume it will be very expensive.
And I understand why.
We care about how our candles look, how they smell and how they feel in your home. But once people actually experience the candle, the feedback is often:
“This is so well priced for what it is.”
That is important to us.
We don’t believe you should have to spend a fortune to experience a beautiful fragrance in your home.
We also don’t believe a candle should sit untouched on a shelf because you are afraid to use it.
Light it. Enjoy it. Finish it. Buy another one.
That is the whole point.
Soy Wax Candles and Wooden Wicks
At AW Apothecary, our candles are made using soy wax and wooden wicks, chosen to complement the fragrance experience.
The wooden wick adds another sensory element — that soft crackling sound as the candle burns — while the soy wax provides the base for our carefully developed fragrances.
But ultimately, the most important thing is still the fragrance.
Because a beautiful candle that doesn’t smell beautiful isn’t much of a candle to me.

I wanted AW Apothecary to sit somewhere between everyday candles and ultra-luxury imported candles.
